NOTICE: Chapter Event registration cancellations received 10 or more days before the Chapter Monthly Meetings or Events will be refunded. Cancellations received 5-10 days before the Chapter Monthly Event will receive a credit of the exact dollar amount towards another chapter event within the same calendar year. Alternatively, we will allow a one-time registration transfer to another individual at the same membership status at no charge. If a price difference exists due to a price difference between events or different membership statuses between transferred attendees, the attendee or new attendee is responsible to pay the difference.  Registration cancellations are non-refundable and nontransferable within 5 days of the event. All cancellation requests must be in writing. Send your cancellation requests to Admin@pbcshrm.org. This policy does not apply to the Annual Conference.

This session breaks down what psychological safety looks like in practice and why it matters for learning, innovation, and employee well‑being.

    Participants will explore a four‑stage framework (Inclusion → Learner → Contributor → Challenger), the connection between psychological safety, emotional intelligence, and mental health, and practical steps leaders and teams can apply immediately to strengthen openness, speaking‑up behavior, and cross‑functional collaboration.

    This training is ideal for supervisors, managers, and anyone who wants to strengthen team culture. You’ll learn:

    Marcela Carneiro Millett has worked for Palm Beach County for over 15 years, gaining experience across Community Services, Court Administration, Risk Management, the Office of Financial Management and Budget, and now the Department of Ombudsman and Strategic Planning.

    She is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt, and Certified Career Coach, committed to continuous process improvement, data‑driven decision‑making, and staff development.

    As the Manager for the County’s Strategic Planning and Performance Management efforts, Marcela guides more than 35 departments in developing strategic plans and identifying key performance indicators aligned with the County’s Vision, Mission, and Strategic Priorities.

    When it comes to psychological safety, Marcela believes it is the foundation for any team to succeed and achieve its goals.

    Couldn't get into one of the most popular sessions at conference? We've got your covered. Our session "what's going to get you sued in 2026" was standing room only, and one of the most highly rated conversations at the event. So, we're bringing the speaker back! 

    At our upcoming chapter dinner, he'll revisit the legal risks everyone is talking about and build on that conversation with insights from his powerful presentation, "What to Do When an Employee Sues: A Survival Guide for HR". 

    Program Description:

    Receiving notice of a lawsuit from a current or former employee can be overwhelming for any organization and business owner. HR professionals play a crucial role in navigating this challenging situation and minimizing further risk. This session provides a practical roadmap for responding effectively to employee lawsuits, from the moment you receive notice to final resolution. Attendees will learn how to preserve critical evidence, collaborate with legal counsel, and maintain workplace morale while protecting the organization’s reputation.

    Learning Objectives:

    1. Immediate Steps After Receiving a Complaint:
      Understand the critical first actions to take when notified of a lawsuit, including preserving relevant documentation, issuing legal holds, and communicating appropriately with stakeholders.
    2. Collaborating with Legal Counsel:
      Learn how to work effectively with attorneys to build a strong defense, provide essential information, and ensure compliance with court requirements.

    3. Maintaining Workplace Stability During Litigation:
      Explore strategies for addressing employee concerns, managing internal communications, and preventing retaliation or further claims while maintaining productivity and morale.


    This session equips HR professionals with the knowledge and tools to handle employee lawsuits calmly and competently, reducing disruption and legal exposure for their organization.

    Presenter Bio:

    David Miklas owns a Labor & Employment law firm and for 27 years he has practiced all types of labor and employment law exclusively representing Florida employers.

    He has written hundreds of employment law articles, is the co-author for the premier legal textbook used by lawyers for Florida employment law, is a frequent employment law presenter and is a nationally recognized speaker and an invited guest lecturer addressing employment law and human resource issues with over thirty universities, including Harvard.

    Mr. Miklas graduated from the University of Florida College of Law.
